Dr Reza Ghohestani

Dermatologist in Texas Institute Of Dermatology Laser & Cosmetic Surgery San Antonio-Texas.
He is a renowned dermatologist with over two decades in basic and clinical dermatology research.

He received his MD degree from Shiraz University then completed his internship in Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, the Nation’s first hospital and one of the top 100 hospitals in U.S.

He then did a residency in Dermatology at Thomas Jefferson University, one of the top dermatology programs in the country.

Deep interests in skin immunobiology, he obtained a Master’s degree in Immunology under directorship of Pr. Jean Pierre Revillard and then a Matser’s in Cutaneous Biology, Cosmetology, and Skin Pharmacology with Pr. Louis Dubertrait (Paris), and a Ph.D. in Skin Immunobiology from Claude Bernard University, in Lyon, France.

He was mentored by Professors Jean Thivolet, Alain Claudy, and Jean Francois Nicolas.

He then did a fellowship in Molecular Medicine at the Nice School of Medicine, in Nice, and was mentored by Professors Jean-Paul Ortonne and Dr. Gim Meneguzzi.

Dr. Ghohestani’s major accomplishments are :

• Identification of target antigens in linear IgA bullous dermatoses
• Identification of a novel autoimmune disease characterized by presence of IgG and IgA to type IV collagen
• Characterization of mucous membrane pemphigoid antigens
• Development of a mouse model of pemphigus by DNA immunization
• Characterization of laminin-5 peptides implicated in wound healing.

He also served as the co-editor of the European Journal of Dermatology from 2001-2008. He speaks frequently to a variety of public and professional organizations.
